I have started this page to record some pictures and information about Beacon Fell.
Beacon Fell is a fell located in the southern Lake District of England with an altitude
of 255m/836ft. Alfred Wainwright included it in his 8th Pictorial Guide, "The Outlying
Fells of Lakeland".
Beacon Tarn and Coniston Water were featured in the winning view (Wastwater) in the
television series 'Britain's Favourite View' in September 2007.
There is a logbook which can be found in the cairn at the top of Beacon Fell - grid
reference SD 278 907.
A carved wooden box was placed originally by a family who holiday locally on a regular
basis. When this went missing, it was replaced by a tin. This is renewed by various
boxes or tins from time to time.
Books are replaced by locals when they are full.
Of particular interest has been the champagne cork left by a honeymooning couple,
the comments by the English Touring Opera and the therapeutic effects of walking
