The Alveston Singers choir was founded in 1977 with the aim of having fun and raising money for charity each year . Two concerts are held in the spring, or early summer, and two during the Christmas period. We usually sing carols outside a shop or supermarket at this time. Every penny that is donated goes to our chosen charities, and we don’t keep any of it for choir funds. Neither do we charge nor sell tickets for our concerts, but we do ask a representative of our charities to come to the concerts to tell the audience a little about their work. The audience can then make a contribution if they so wish.

In 2010 we were able to send cheques for £1,000 to both our charities, namely The Willow Trust and Home Start Bristol. In 2011 we are singing in aid of Help for Heroes and Pancreatic Cancer Research.  For details of our next concert and a list of our past concerts since 1984, click here or on the link on the left.

At present we have just over 50 members who currently pay a subscription of £25 per year, and most of the music we sing is borrowed from libraries. There are no auditions but singers who can read music are especially welcome. We enjoy singing a great variety of music from major classical works to lighter songs from musicals and folk songs. We meet each Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Alveston Methodist Church and welcome new members (particularly tenors and basses!).
